Since we bought the mill last year G’s had great fun milling all sorts of wood into all sorts of sizes. From delicious smelling Western Red Cedar to glorious Chestnut and Poplar, from lovely Larch to good strong Oak and pale Ash, its all been through the mill to create everything from strong rafters to intimate internal boarding, beautiful contempory beds to big barn doors. In fact the last few months have all been about the mobile mill - epic deliveries of wood and mountains of sawdust everywhere!  ALL our wood is from sustainable, local forests and some of it is from the land owners’ own woods to make fantastic features in his eco cottages.

With this method 75% of log weight is on the notch and 25% on the lateral groove of the log. This means that as they age and settle the log buildings become tighter and do not allow the logs to warp and twist, preventing gaps opening between the logs, and creating a weather tight seal.
We produce the shell of our log buildings with all window and door openings cut out, all electrical and through bolt holes drilled, wall channels cut to receive conventional framed walls. All roof system members are mortised and tenoned and milled to accept dimensional lumber.

After the logs have been hand peeled and carved we apply a boron based preservative to protect the logs from fungal and insect attack. For those very special buildings we also have a world class wood carver who can sculpt motifs, designs or images into the feature logs of the building.
